Enclose

For today's 'What the Doodle?' on Creative Juices.

Quick story: I almost lost this image to Flash Limbo when my file went corrupt on a system lock-up. This is where you click on the .fla, and Flash politely informs you that it is unable to open the file. Period. Gone for good. GAME OVER. Well, this time on a whim I tried swapping the file extension to .jpg, and then back to .fla. And when I tried to open it, it worked!—but only for a few moments until the file would crash. So, I published it as .swf to get the artwork out, and then re-imported the .swf into a new Flash file. It worked, image saved! So, it's worth a shot if you find yourself in a similar (horrible) situation.

I leave you with this thought: Wouldn't it be cool if you were inking a drawing on paper and it all of a sudden vanished (POP) from the universe? No, it wouldn't. This is what is fundamentally bad about computers. Your artwork doesn't exist anywhere outside of those 1s and 0s. Artist, beware.

Mucky

My laptop came back from repairs last night (new logic board!) just in time for me to quickly work up something for today's What the Doodle: Mucky! ...Hard to pass that one up.

Check out what everyone else did here.

Here's a quick comic I drew up last night for today's What the Doodle?, on the Creative Juices blog.

Sometimes you guys ask—I inked this in Flash.

Welcomed

Here's my image for today's What the Doodle? on Creative Juices. The word this week was WELCOMED. If you click on the image you'll notice I went for a "zipatone" effect using Photoshop's halftoning feature. I'd never tried this before—liking the result a lot.

Inked and colored in Flash.

Tanning

I drew this chump for today's What the Doodle? over at Creative Juices. The random word this week was TANNING. I normally don't use gradients (I'm a flat color guy), but tans do have gradation in certain areas, so I went for it. Drawn and colored in Flash.

Interbreeding

The "What the Doodle" word this week (with no influence from me...I sware...completely random) was interbreeding.

Here's my inking from Flash:

I drew the critter below as a spare...some kind of lobster/rabbit mutant.

Be sure to stop by Creative Juices to see what the FableVision crew came up with. By the way, a few people have asked—this is the random word generator we use.

Espouse

I wrote a quick gag comic for this week's "What the Doodle?" The word that came out of the random word generator was ESPOUSE. A tricky one for sure. I decided to play the fear angle. Not sure how successful it is, though. Here's what the rest of the FableVision crew came up with on Creative Juices.

Pelagic

Here's my contribution for this week's What The Doodle? on Creative Juices. The random word generator spit out the most obscure word yet: PELAGIC. Which, in a nutshell refers to the open sea, or the creatures who inhabit the upper layers of the ocean.

Stop on by to sea, ahem...see what the rest of the FableVision crew came up with --> here.

Trace

This week's "What the Doodle?" on Creative Juices was TRACE. I drew this guy with a brush pen in my sketchbook and added some color in Photoshop. Check out what the rest of the FableVision crew came up with here.

Extinguishable

This week's "What the Doodle?" was a longish word: Extinguishable. I admit I kind of went off on a tangent to create a pretty bizarre looking creature. The candle has already been extinguished, so what remains that might be extinguishable....hmmm?

Here's my original pencil sketch. And below is the inked version (I did this one in Flash).

As always, be sure to hop on over to Creative Juices to see what everyone at FableVision came up with.

Stubble

The What the Doodle? gods were shining down on me this week. Somehow (and I didn't pick it) the random word generator spit out the word STUBBLE. That's right, stubble. I decided not to go with the obvious (draw a hideously gross face, add a pinch of nose warts and a dash of chin stubble), so I came up with this scene. It's actually kind of cute for stubble, I think.

Be sure to stop over at Creative Juices to see what everyone else came up with.

Oh, and just because it was that easy to find in my sketchbook, here's that "obvious" approach. Consider it a WTD? bonus.

Publicity (stunt)

(be sure to click for the larger image)

We just posted the latest What The Doodle? over at FableVision's Creative Juices blog. The word this week is PUBLICITY. I went with the publicity stunt angle. I like to think that the nose hair connects to another nose at some point, but I leave that up to you.

Razor

The WTD? word for this week is RAZOR.

Here's the the sketch that got me started. I played around with a couple different color treatments for this one (alternates below).

I went for pure cartoon pop on the later.
Hopefully it glows a bit on your monitor.

You can check out the other contributions over at the FableVision's Creative Juices blog. If we stay on track, look for another WTD? in a couple weeks.

Justification

Here's my contribution for this week's WTD? (What The Doodle?) on FableVision's Creative Juices blog. "Justification" was what the random word generator spit out—one of the trickier words we've gotten so far.
