This approach was recommended to me for both of the reasons you mentioned, and I do think it printed more crisp. Especially with black lines, the printer doesn't have to concern itself with gray edges...just black ink or no black ink. You don't have to worry about ghosted shifting as much either, which can happen if the CMYK plates shift. As for coloring, it would go super easy if I had closed lines, so I still have to color underneath. I now ink everything this way—bitmap line in Manga Studio. Feels purer, somehow.
